His grin widened at her question, but half a second later he cleared his throat and picked up that same breezy tone. "An engagement ring. I have a very specific design in mind."
He drew a piece of notebook paper out of his pocket; on it, a diagram for the ring in question. It's every bit symbolic, but hopefully not so ostentatious that it won't make Pepper roll her eyes. He was no jeweler, but personally, he liked it.
One hand gestured to the general soft chaos of the smithy's hard edges. "It's not like I have other work." Not too many people asking for jewelry these days.
"That's it?" Enough for other people, but not enough for Tony Stark. "Let me pitch in. I know how to use the same tools you do." Granted, Tony was hardly a jeweler, but he knew delicate metalwork like the back of his hand.
