Seven

[Raven is late for work this morning.

She's hard on herself about it all morning long, working on her projects with hardly a word to anyone else, because things like that are unacceptable. Especially when she's in this kind of mood. When it comes around to lunch time she stalks out of the smithy, bag in hand, sore on top of being frustrated with herself.

Usually she sits on the bench outside the building if it's a nice day; this time her feet take her all the way to the plaza, to sit by the fountain and break the bread of her sandwich bun into little pieces for the local birds. She's just not hungry. They are, so why not share? A small cluster of them shares her bench with her until or unless someone walks by to disturb them.

For a while, she sits there and stares at nothing. Lately everyone is whispering about that going-home stuff. And while she misses home...is Luceti really so terrible? It's like a bigger, weirder Sharance sometimes. Thinking about this too much is giving her a headache, though, so she rubs her temples with a low irate sound and gets up to go back to work.

Then lightheadedness kicks in, she overbalances too much to one side, and into the fountain she goes, cut off before she can finish shouting.

Thus, she is wet and disheveled and heavy-eyed by the time she does get back to work. Late. Again. And at last, obviously not feeling well after all.]

Oh, I was having lunch, too. What a coincidence, huh? Aha... ha... ha... [Cue awkward laughter trailing off.] Well, I guess not. I mean, it is lunch time after all...

Then I was going to go back to work.

[It's obviously still on her mind.]

[Of course. There might be customers. Anyway tuna fish it is really not your business!]

Uh, well, I guess I admire your dedication...? [Kinda.] What do you do anyway?

[pendantry]

I'm a smith. [This guy must be really new, to not know that. Or he doesn't like weapons. But so few people come through the village that don't like weapons.] I make accessories.

[zeropoints]

[If it weren't for video games, he wouldn't know what a smith was. It makes him a little excited to know they really do exist!]

Like mythril circlets and steel helms and stuff like that?

[pendantry]

Sort of. [Circlets and helms aren't really asked-after around here.] Most of it is more like jewelry.

[She lifts her current pendant - sun-shaped and set with goldish crystals - out of her shirt.]

Wow, that's amazing! [He takes a moment to admire the pendant.] A sun flame...

...You think so?

[She rests somewhere between complimented and incredulous. Tsuna-fish looks so stunned, hasn't he ever seen jewelry before?]

Yeah! I mean I can barely fold paper airplanes--[In fact, he's not even sure he can do that well.]--and here you are making stuff out of metal.

[pendantry]

It takes practice.

[And yet she doesn't think he wants to become a smith of any sort.]

What is a paper air plane?

[zeropoints]

[Uh.]

It's--well, it's an airplane made out of paper. [He digs into his pocket for a napkin. It comes out as crumpled as expected but he thinks it'll work. Probably.]

Fold in the middle and then like this and this... And you get... this?

[Can she see the wondrous airplane-y shape? Can she??]

That's a piece of paper.

[It's not the paper part that gives her trouble. Or the folding part. Sakuya could make little shapes out of paper too.

But what the hell is an air plane?]

Y... e... s, that, too. But it's also an airplane! Kinda... Kinda rough around the edges, but it's there.

[If you squint.]

If I had a sheet of paper then maybe I could fold a proper one and make it fly for you...

I don't know what an air plane is. [But apparently it flies.] A paper bird?

[WHAT IS A PLANE...]

I-it's this machine that you can use to fly yourself to different places around the world. And not just you, either. It can fly hundreds of people all that once. It does look a little like a bird, I guess, so like--a huge metal bird? That flies. Er. People.

[A+ explanation.]

You're making that up.

[Nothing is big enough to carry hundreds of people at once. They have trouble with vehicles that carry more than ten. Raven just can't believe in an iron bird with people inside. Also made of paper.]

I can believe trains, but that's impossible.

[zeropoints]

[Tsuna has been called many things--truly, he has--but it's rare for someone to call him a liar. Or close to it, anyway.]

No, it's true! [Please, Raven, you're giving him too much credit; he's not nearly creative enough to make this up.] It might sound a little unbelievable, but some people are just smart and crazy enough to dream of this stuff and make it come true. I'm not smart or crazy, so...

[pendantry]

[At least they're at the entrance to her building now and she won't have to keep trying to walk straight and envision metal birds at the same time.]

Then your world is weird.

[zeropoints]

Haha, only a very small part of it. Otherwise, it's sorta normal. [He looks up at the building.] Is this it?

[pendantry]

Mmh. [Nod, this is it. And Tsuna walks the edge of driving her crazy in her current state, so she would rather not invite him inside.]

You didn't have to come.

[zeropoints]

No, I kind of did.

[Leaving her to walk home alone was and is still out of the question! But as long as they're here now, Tsuna lets himself slouch a little with relief.]
